Prepare classic dishes from the Senegalese culinary tradition

Are you passionate about cooking, or perhaps simply curious to learn to prepare one of the classic dishes from the Sine Saloum region – if so, this workshop is for you!
Hosted by a women’s association from the village of Djilor, the birthplace of Senegal’s first president, Leopold Sedar Senghor, this workshop offers you the chance to spend a few hours in the company of these local women as they teach you the secrets of traditional Senegalese cooking. You’ll learn to prepare a variety of simple but flavorful recipes, including rice dishes, meat dishes, fish dishes, and vegetable dishes. When your cooking is complete, you’ll have the chance to experience one of the most important moments of Senegalese culture: sitting around a shared bowl to eat a meal together! You’ll be able to take these secrets of Senegalese cooking, as well as fond memories of an unforgettable meal, back home with you, offering your friends and family a taste of Senegalese flavors – and hospitality – from afar!

How to get to Djilor:

If you prefer “DIY” travel, you may take public transportation (sept-place or bus) from Dakar’s Beaux Maraichers bus station.

The village  of Djilor is located 3 hours south of Dakar. We recommend hiring a private taxi; by public bus or car, you will need to make various stopovers and changes, and there are no fixed timetables for departure. You may lose an entire day in transit. Alternatively, the bus company Dakar Dem Dik also offers passage to the Sine Saloum region from Dakar.
