Try your hand at organic farming and take a swim in the ocean

Are you interested in spending a day immersed in the natural world, spending time with animals and participating in activities with a local organization engaged in organic farming? The teaching farm in Mbodiene offers you a true immersion in Senegalese agriculture, far from the confusion of urban centers and tourist towns. Located in the village of Mbodiene on the Petite Cote, just a few minutes from local fishing villages and beautiful beaches, the organization is dedicated to cultivating a large variety of fruits and vegetables with the goal of reintroducing plant and tree species that restore regional biodiversity.
During this workshop, you will be able to help the farmers in their daily activities, such as plowing and preparing the earth, watering and irrigation, harvesting fruits and vegetables, and taking care of the animals. Through these activities, you’ll develop an understanding of the principles of sustainable agriculture and the local ecosystem for the production and sale of local and organic produce. For lunch, you’ll taste a delicious traditional meal prepared with fresh produce from the farm, eating around a shared bowl with the farmers that you’ve spent the day working with.
In the afternoon, you’ll take a private tour of the farm, where you’ll admire spectacular vistas onto the ocean, as well as the forest of Ngazobil, a protected area of over 600 hectares home to monkeys, boars, and hyenas. At the end of your tour, you’ll take a traditional donkey cart to the beach, where you’ll enjoy a picnic of local fruits and jams, as well as the chance to swim in the warm ocean waters.
Optional: To conclude this fantastic day, you also have the opportunity to take a boat excursion and guided tour of either the famous shell island of Fadiouth, or of islets that are natural habitats of sea turtles, dolphins, and manatees.
